TRANSITION – CHALLENGES – EXCELLENCE

With its theme “Transition – Challenges – Excellence”, the 2023-2024 Activity Report of the Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) reflects a year marked by significant changes, major challenges and an ongoing commitment to excellence.

Transition and Organizational Changes

Marc Desjardins’s arrival as the new President and CEO starting in the summer of 2023 is part of a key transformation phase. After fourteen years with INS Québec, seven of which as CEO, Gaëtan Robitaille has continued in a strategic advisory role, contributing to a planned and orderly transition process. He will officially leave the Institute in the fall of 2024.

The management team was strengthened by the appointments of Roger Archambault as Vice-President, Performance Services, and Benoît-Hugo St-Pierre as Director, Excellence Programs and Professional Development. These nominations have strengthened the organization, bringing complementary expertise.

Challenges and Resilience

Securing adequate funding was a major challenge throughout the year. A new financial funding agreement is under discussion with the Ministère de l’Éducation, which should provide predictability and stability. The Institute is also working on innovative business models to diversify its revenues and sustain its mission.

Committed to Excellence

Despite the challenges, INS Québec remained focused on sports excellence. Following the fire at Olympic Park on March 21, 2024, which caused damage to the Complex facilities and forced the relocation of activities, INS Québec team members ensured the continuation of services with resilience, rigour and professionalism. Staff were able to continue supporting athletes and coaches as they prepared for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. New Members on the Board of Directors

As a result of the nomination process, the INS Québec Board of Directors welcomes two new members: Michel Laramée and Valérie Lemieux. Three Board members were reappointed: Jean R. Dupré, Yann Paquet and Marie Pinsonneault. Five new members complete the Board: Émilie Bundock, Nathalie Joncas, Mélanie Marois, Jean-Philippe Normandeau and François Racine.

Michel Laramée was Vice-President Sales, Oakley North America within the global Essilor Luxottica group. He brings 30 years of experience in sports brand sales management. Certified Chair™ of the Advisory Board Centre, and founder of Brand & People Consulting, he supports the growth of organizations, businesses and executives. A former head coach with the Laurentian Ski Division, his passion for high-performance sport has shaped the career of this physical activity teaching graduate.

Valerie Lemieux is a financial executive. She works for the Royal Bank of Canada, in their Capital Markets division. Prior to joining RBC, she worked at HSBC Canada for over 15 years. A former member of the Canadian long-track speed skating team, Valérie is no stranger to high performance in both the sporting and business worlds.

INS Québec would like to acknowledge the contribution of two members who have left the Board of Directors. After six years of active service, Francine Champoux did not seek re-election. For his part, in order to comply with the Institute’s governance rules, Benoît Huot, a Board member since 2019, had to step down during the year following his appointment as Chairman of the Board of Parasports Québec. Through their contribution, Francine and Benoît have supported and brought to life the “Ingenuity behind the performances”.
