Québec Budget 2022-2023 – Reaction from INS Québec
QUÉBEC BUDGET 2022-2023 : INS QUÉBEC WELCOMES THE $250 MILLION INVESTMENT TO GET QUEBECERS MOVING AND WOULD HAVE LIKED SPECIFIC MEASURES TO SUPPORT THE RETURN TO SPORT
Included in the Québec government’s 2022-2023 budget, the announcement of a $250 million investment over five years to get Quebecers moving is welcomed with interest by the Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec). However, it remains to be seen how these investments will be actualized.
The Institute is also anticipating the details of the action plan for sport and physical activity that the government wishes to put in place and whose details will be announced shortly by the Minister of Education, Isabelle Charest. The INS Québec is offering its expertise and collaboration to contribute to the development and implementation of this action plan.
For the INS Québec, the new investments announced in the budget, although important and interesting, are not recovery measures that will allow the sport community to overcome the negative impacts of the pandemic on the participation in sport at all levels. As it is the case for other sectors of activity, INS Quebec would have liked to see the announcement of concrete measures to successfully support the efforts undertaken for the return to sport.
