CONCUSSION PREVENTION AND TREATMENT: THE COMMITMENT OF INS QUÉBEC

As part of Concussion Awareness Week, the Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) is reaffirming its role as Canada’s leader in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of concussions. With expertise recognized both nationally and internationally, the INS Québec is a major player in the advancement of knowledge about these injuries. Through its active participation as a founding member of the Réseau Francophone Olympique de Recherche en Médecine du Sport (ReFORM), the Institut contributes to the evolution of practices worldwide.

A clinic focused on the specific needs of athletes

INS Québec offers a unique service through its Interdisciplinary Concussion Clinic, where a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach is favored. Headed by Dr. Suzanne Leclerc, who is recognized both in Canada and internationally as a concussion specialist, the clinic plays a central role in the assessment and rehabilitation of athletes affected by these complex injuries. By bringing together specialized health professionals, the clinic ensures accurate diagnosis and individualized follow-up.

The team of professionals surrounding Dr. Leclerc oversees every step of the process, from initial assessment to full rehabilitation. The combination of expertise in sports medicine, neurology, physiotherapy, optometry, sports psychology and more ensures a safe and timely return to competition, while minimizing any negative consequences.

A long-term commitment to athletes’ health

Aware of the long-term impact of concussions on athletes’ health, INS Québec makes prevention and awareness-raising a priority at all times. Concussion Awareness Week is a reminder that early detection and prompt treatment can make a significant difference to an athlete’s recovery.

Thanks to the expertise of its team, its research projects and its contribution to international projects, notably with ReFORM, INS Québec plays a key role in defining best practices in concussion management. This commitment testifies to the Institute’s determination to maintain the highest standards in athlete health and safety, while remaining on the cutting edge of innovation.
