INS QUÉBEC SUPPORTED ONE-THIRD OF TEAM CANADA MEMBERS
AT THE PARIS 2024 PARALYMPIC GAMES

As the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games get underway tomorrow (August 28), the Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) highlights its leading role in preparing 47 of the 126 Team Canada athletes for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games (see attached list). This collaboration with more than a third of the delegation across ten sports is indicative of the Institute’s ongoing commitment to providing excellence in sport science and sport medicine to optimize athlete performance.

“Our specialists have worked hand in hand with athletes and integrated support teams to prepare them for these Games, a process that often spreads over several years,” points out Roger Archambault, Vice President, Performance Services at INS Québec. “Their commitment and expertise have a direct impact on the athletes’ performances, and their presence in Paris is the concrete expression of this hard work. With such support, INS Québec reaffirms its role as the true ‘Ingenuity Behind Performance’, propelling athletes to new heights.”

In addition to this support in their preparation, six INS Québec specialists will directly assist the athletes, five of whom will be on site in Paris, and most of whom will be involved with the para-swimming group. These experts, including strength and conditioning specialists, a physiotherapist, a performance analyst and a doctor, will play a major role in ensuring that the athletes are in the best possible conditions to shine at these Games.

INS Québec’s specialists for Paris 2024 are Simon Deguire, strength and conditioning specialist at the Institute and coach of the Para swimming team, who will be supported by Alex Clark, strength and conditioning specialist, Kathleen Smith, physiotherapist, Evelyne Dubé, performance analyst (working out from Montréal) and Dr. Andréanne Bourgeois who, in addition to her role as doctor for the para-swimming group, will provide assistance to the Boccia athletes. As for François Raymond, he will work as a strength and conditioning specialist with the Para cycling athletes.

A network that makes a difference

Services such as those provided by INS Québec are also available in all regions of Canada, thanks to the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Sport Institutes Network (COPSIN), which comprises five institutes and two centers. For the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, COPSIN supported 95% of Team Canada members. This collective contribution illustrates the importance of nationwide collaboration for the success of Canadian athletes.
